Why Expertise Matters

Everyone I work with has extraordinary expertise. Some are artists and entrepreneurs, others have wisdom gained from a life’s work in their field. They also share the desire to amplify their influence and reach a much wider audience.

Expertise matters because when you genuinely have something valuable to say, the rest is easy. Too often, highly accomplished professionals worry that they are being “left behind” by the social media bandwagon. Not true. Setting up an effective social media platform is generally a straightforward, time-limited task, and people everywhere are hungry for your knowledge and insight. With the desire to spread your message and the follow-through to implement a plan, you are already way ahead of the pack.

A Focused Message Will Simplify Your Workflow

One of the most common mistakes I see people make in social media is spreading themselves too thin. They try to be everywhere at once, adopting too many platforms while not really reaching their target audience. In the process they become overwhelmed by the impossible task of keeping everything updated, and eventually give up out of frustration.

I help my clients reach their goals by fine-tuning their core message, and setting up a social strategy that is both effective and sustainable. We choose just a few key social sites, optimize their existing web presence, and simplify the upkeep by automating workflows as much as possible. If a client has a book to publish, we leverage their blog writing to create that book while growing their audience, allowing them to maximize sales once the book is released. And yes, I do love my work!

Sharing What We Know

One of the most reliable ways to build up credibility and influence is to tell our story in an authentic way. For my clients, having an online voice that rings true for them is a priority, as is finding the most effective avenues for telling their story.

With my background in radio I am quite comfortable on-air, so radio and TV appearances are one of my favorite ways to share what I know (and how I learned it) with a wider audience. I sat down recently with Mike Wolpert on Social Jumpstart TV to discuss how to find the right social media tools for your business.

More About Me

I started out in education, and launched my first home business back in the early 90s. A techie at heart, I have been advising authors and independent professionals about online marketing since 1994. The tools and strategies have changed a great deal since then, but our basic human impulse to share what we know and have a positive impact is stronger than ever.

I love firing up audiences to go out and share their wisdom, and to be strategic as well as creative in making their voices heard. I am co-organizer with Suzanna Stinnett of the Bay Area Bloggers Society, and speak regularly at our Authors Go Public meetups in San Francisco, Marin, and Sonoma.

In addition to helping people individually and in group presentations, I share lots of my best ideas for free on this blog. All my business ebooks have their start here, or in articles I write for the Huffington Post. I also have a digital publishing company and host the Dream Talk Radio podcast.
